Declutter Thursday!

This week at my house: widespread illness. Yes, it’s like a revolving door here. Once you think you’re better- there’s more! So maybe we can hope for better health in the new year.

I do have a box to show you today, thankfully.

The Box

The Contents

  • sunglasses
  • bottle of hair gel
  • Burt’s Bees gardener kit
  • small votive holder
  • 2 bottles of perfume
  • cookbook
  • 2 purses
  • large candle
  • table runner
  • dog sweater
  • portable cd player
  • VHS tape
  • 3 greeting cards(new)
  • notebook
  • 7 glass dishes
  • portable cassette player
  • wooden plaque

27 items this week. Not too shabby. Altogether, that’s  233 items removed from the house. Excellent!

How’s your decluttering going? If you’re not a borderline hoarder- congratulations. Any goals you have this year that seem a tad overwhelming? How are you handling them?

Tomorrow’s Friday. Happy Friday!!!

p.s. I think I’m having pancakes for supper tomorrow night. Maybe with fruit. I used to like the fake syrup. The stuff that said “butter flavor.” Oh the shame. I still don’t mind it…

Declutter Diary

It’s Thursday. That means I show you a picture of a box full of stuff I’m donating/giving away.

Today was a long day because I went through and organized two boxes of paperwork. It was tedious but so worth it. Now they’re gone! Woohoo!

After I went through those boxes, I put together my declutter box for you to see. It’s kind of nice showing you, because I feel accountable. I’m actually decluttering because I feel like someone might notice if I stop!

The Contents

  • 3 candles
  • small plastic container with lid
  • 3 pig knickknacks
  • hair clip
  • headband
  • game on CD-ROM
  • 31 books

This week’s total number of items: 41! That brings the grand total to 99 items- not bad for 3 weeks. I have decided that my former goal of getting rid of 200 items for the year is a bit silly now. So I’ve changed the number to 1,200. I feel like that’s enough to keep me moving and stay focused. I might have tried for a higher number but I think as I declutter there will be less and less to actually clear out. That’s my hope anyway!

So, how are you doing? Any particular goal that you’re working on for the year? I hope you’re making progress on it! Don’t give up!

Makeup Organization: How to store my makeup collection?

Seriously, this is a never ending question. Where to store all of the makeup we are collecting…? There are so many great ideas out there!

Should I go this route, with a great frame/magnetic setup a la LauraThoughts81?14-03-2011018

Then there is the Alex drawer from IKEA… This is great for storing a growing collection.

Or the even bigger Alex unit from IKEA

Now that’s what I’m talking about!!

This glass top vanity from LizMarieBlog is pretty amazing –

I could try these stick on pods for convenient storage, wherever I like –

A low cost option is using ice cube trays for storage of smaller items –

DVD racks are a great way to organize palettes!

Or I could always use these catchall storage bins, available on Amazon

This unit, available on Etsy

Or I could repurpose an old jewelry organizer

So much makeup, so many options!!

How do you organize your makeup?
