Decluttering- back on the wagon!

I am nearing my deadline. 1,200 items removed from my house by the end of the year. I was doing pretty well. Then I just kind of stopped unintentionally.

You know. Things come up. Bad timing. Whatever.

I kept thinking I should start this up again.

Now I’m really under pressure!

Here it is: The Box.

What’s in it?

  • 2 towels
  • 2 blenders
  • 8 knives
  • 4 oven mitts
  • 3 funnels
  • 2 pie servers
  • bottle of lotion
  • onion keeper
  • 2 headbands
  • corkscrew
  • book
  • 2 whisks
  • 3 spatulas
  • 2 coffee mugs
  • wallet
  • 4 CDs
  • 2 bracelets
  • 2 mixing bowls
  • glasses case
  • 3 ornaments
  • 2 can openers
  • 2 car window shades
  • 4 sweaters
  • 2 board games
  • veggie peeler
  • 2 serving spoons
  • paper towel holder
  • 3 skirts
  • 6 shirts
  • kitchen hand towel
  • jacket
  • pair of pants
  • pair of socks
  • 4 dresses

78 things I got out of the house. Some of those things aren’t pictured because I gave them to a friend before I took the picture. ūüė¶ That’s okay. These aren’t the most interesting pictures anyway. It’s the journey that’s important. Right?!

The last time I did a declutter box, which was in June in case you were wondering, the total was 566. So now it’s 644.

Now as long as I don’t stop doing this for 4 months, I should be okay. As long as I stay on track.

Hopefully if you’re decluttering or getting rid of your hoard- you’re sticking to it! Good luck!

Updates soon…

Declutter Challenge Results: Week One

It’s been a week since I challenged myself to get rid of 200 items in my house. How’s that challenge working out? Hmmm. Well, I have a box full of stuff I’m taking to the thrift store.¬†The contents of this box were cleared off of a pool table in the cellar. I don’t think I’ve seen that pool table for a year. Here’s a picture of the box which must leave the house…within the week.

I haven’t really made too many rules in this challenge- but I think it may be necessary. Especially considering the large amount of stuff crowding in on us here!

The contents of this week’s box:

  • set of sheets
  • rc helicopter
  • Swiffer WetJet cleaning pads
  • sink faucet
  • Christmas tree garland
  • package of baby bottle nipples
  • tote bag
  • 2 nonstick skillets
  • plastic Coca-Cola cup
  • board game
  • 2 empty spray bottles
  • 3 small hand lotions
  • bottle of baby gas drops
  • 3 bottles of shampoo
  • 2 bottles of lotion
  • roll of¬†contact paper
  • 2 bottles of body wash
  • bar of soap
  • dish drying rack and drain board
  • 14 VHS tapes
  • 4 books
  • 1 dvd

If I counted correctly, that’s 46 items!!! That certainly exceeded my expectations for the first week. This is a bittersweet victory because this hardly made a dent into the piles of…piles. Yeah, I definitely need to make up some rules for this challenge and definitely change the number of items to get rid of. I’ll post that next Thursday.

I’m excited to be able to use the pool table again! Have you challenged yourself to declutter? Are you thinking that you’re a borderline hoarder? Have you shocked friends and family with your abilities to collect stuff?

Have a great evening!

Target Advent Calendar: Day 2!

What a day! My internet wasn’t working earlier today so I wasn’t sure I’d even be able to post. I’m happy to be connected again! It’s time for the second day of 12 Days of Beauty Faves!

As I was editing this video, I caught myself cringing¬†a lot. I was pretty tired when I filmed this particular video, and it seems I had a lot of trouble focusing. Maybe this can be used as evidence that people need a good amount of sleep to function properly. Yes…

I hope you all are doing well and having an enjoyable week. It’s pretty cold here- but I think it’d be¬†good weather¬†for snowshoeing or cross country skiing. We’ve got the snow, and with the sun out- it just makes activities like those¬†lovely. I really like snowshoeing; I need to make some time for it.

Only 2 more days until Friday! Woohoo! What are you up to? What do you need to make time for?

p.s. Tomorrow I will be posting an¬†update on my No Hoarding Here Challenge. I don’t know about that name. I’ll have to think about it. Be sure to check out what I’m getting rid of. ūüôā

Minimalist or Hoarder? A goal for 2017

Hoarding is something we normally see on the television or hear about from someone who knows someone who is a hoarder…

Minimalism seems to be what a lot of people are leaning towards- but not extreme minimalism! Goodness no.

I’m not going to do any kind of¬†in depth¬†research about this.¬†Not right now. Maybe not ever. What I will do is admit that maybe I’ve been leaning(or falling) into the hoarder side of things for a couple of months now. Okay. Years. It just kind of creeps up on you. (That’s what they all say…)

Suddenly you realize that there is a lot of stuff in your house/apartment/condo/boat/box. And you’re only actually able to use 1/10th of that stuff because everything else is packed away or shoved¬†into any available space so that you can have more available space for the other junk, I mean treasures, that you bring home.

See how uncluttered this cart is?

What am I getting at? I’m pretty sure I’m not a hoarder. I’m also pretty sure I won’t fall under the minimalist description anytime soon. I never make a resolution when we enter¬†a new year. I do write down some goals and that works well for me.

The bottom part of the same cart…

This year, I have one big goal: to get rid of 200 items in my home. Once a week I will take a picture of the box of items that I am getting rid of. I will also list the items¬†here so¬†I will have a tally.¬†All items will be leaving my home to go to the thrift store or someone else who really wants it. I won’t be storing any of those items in my home for a later date- they must leave the house within a week of entering the box.

If you think you would like to join me in this goal/challenge- tell me in the comments. I’m rooting for you! We can do this! We’re not going to be hoarders!!!
